So, What’s Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation is a procedure that involves extraction of live root bearing hair follicles from the donor area i.e. back and sides of the head and implanting them on the recipient area (bald area). The basic concept of hair transplant is based on the principle of donor dominance that helps to regain its properties when moved to a new area.

URFUG: What led to it?
- The graft or unit consists of a small group of hairs in a particular configuration on scalp. There would be 1.8 to 2.5 hairs per follicular unit on an average. We separate the strip from the donor area into individual grafts or units (that contains 1 to 4 or 5 hairs) through Mantis Microscopes, video Microscopes and Stereomicroscopes.
- Few years back the grafts are separated with naked eyes as bunches of hair containing some 8-10 or 12-16 hairs as unit. These are kept on bald area by putting a incision on the skin. So after growth they appear as doll’s head appearance, which is highly undesirable
- As apart of research the latest microscopic dissection leads to development of URFUG, by which we are able to get undetectable hair lines.
With these grafts invention the unnatural look or pluggy look and irregular skin surface, wide space in between the grafts is avoided.

Dense packing
- The natural density of the follicular units by birth is 80-100 grafts per square centimeter. Sometimes less than 60 grafts per sq cm (blacks) or greater than 120 grafts per sq. cm (such as in Hispanic, whites) is also found.

Trichophytic closure
- To bring the natural looking hair, we extort a narrow strip of the hair bearing donor area from the permanent hair zone while carrying out FUT method. The edges of the excised area would be closed immediately, which leaves a permanent scar. Generally, this kind of scar, does not exhibit hair growth.
- To reduce the visibility of scar, we use a specialized technique near the edges of the wound closure. In this method we deepithelize either the upper or lower edge or both the edges and suture it with 4-0 vicryl (delayed absorbable). So that hair begins to grow through the scar.
Exception: In spite of all efforts, sometimes a wide scar is seen in cases of Keloid tendency and connective tissue disorders, as these are hereditary in nature.
